Giggs added that he believes Tottenham will finish third in the Premier League this season, behind the two Manchester clubs, meaning that Spurs will finish above their bitter rivals Arsenal for the second season running.

Spurs were 3-1 winners against Champions League holders Real Madrid at Wembley last month after already beating Borussia Dortmund at the home of English football.

But Cech has said that if Spurs really want to show how far they've come, they need to win a trophy, something they haven't done since their League Cup victory since 2008.

"There is always one odd year where things can change".

"For me that made the biggest difference because they have young, talented players as well as experienced players, their team is very well balanced". The Czech goalkeeper also said that Spurs need to win a trophy if they want to prove how far they've come under Pochettino's time as manager.

'We were under pressure the last couple of years, people talking about winning trophies, obviously we are disappointed not to have won the title but we won FA Cups.

The first North London derby of the season kicks off on Saturday when Spurs travel to the Emirates in the first Premier League game after the global break ends.

Spurs' supporters have been given a huge boost as they head into this weekend's north London derby with news that pivotal defender Jan Vertonghen is fit and ready to face their fiercest league rivals.

But Cech insists the title - and not just leapfrogging Tottenham - is still the Gunners' target.

Neil Ruddock says he is confident Tottenham Hotspur will beat Arsenal at The Emirates on Saturday afternoon.

Does Crystal Palace ace Wilfried Zaha have what it takes to replace Alexis Sanchez at Arsenal?

"Three years ago, when we finished above them, we were disappointed because we didn't win the title. Our target is to win the title".
