Jack Swagger Signs With Bellator MMA In Heavyweight Division

Former WWE Champion Jack Swagger Signs Bellator Contract

While appearing on the MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani this afternoon, Jack Swagger (real name Jake Hager) announced that he's signed with Bellator MMA and will be debuting as a heavyweight in 2018. "Maybe I got away from that for too long". The contract is for six fights.

Hager also briefly played football at Oklahoma before dedicating himself to wrestling full time.

A native of Perry, Okla., Hager would go on to be a collegiate wrestler at the University of Oklahoma, where he was an All-American and set the school record for most pins at the 285-pound weight class in a single season with 30.

Swagger's reign on top was short-lived, and his remaining years on WWE consisted of many stop-start storylines which failed to fully connect with the audience. Hager said he'll be competing in the heavyweight division.

Hager said he has been training at the Ybor City Jiu-Jitsu Club in Tampa, Florida, for the past eight months.

He will try to replicate the career of guys like Brock Lesnar, who have successfully moved from professional wrestling to MMA, and hopefully not like CM Punk, who lost his only fight in 2016.

'I'm not a freak show coming in to take some money, I'm here to compete and be a champion'.
