Child trapped in car suffers critical injuries in Melbourne's west

Emergency services rushed to Maddox Road in the inner Melbourne suburb of Newport after one of the boy's parents found him inside his parents' black Kia Carnival minivan at 2.45pm.

A SCHOOLBOY is fighting for his life in hospital after he was found unconscious in a hot vehicle in Australia in a near-fatal game of hide and seek.

She returned to her vehicle and found him inside at 2.45pm.

The boy was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

The mother then drove to work in Maddox Road, Newport, unaware that he was in the auto.

It has been confirmed that he is the son of a staff member at the nearby Newport Gardens Primary School.

It is unclear how the boy became trapped inside the auto, but police do not believe the circumstances to be suspicious.

Another resident who saw the commotion said it was a 'very sad situation'.

Bill El-Hawli, who has lived on Maddox Road for 35 years, found out about it while watching the evening news.
