Trump trades 'short and fat' barb with N Korea's Kim

Kim Jong-un could resume their weapons testing

The threat of conflict between Kim Jong-un's nuclear-armed North and the South, backed by Donald Trump, has been looming over the Korean Peninsula for months.

In an address to a business forum after the talks, Trump said the U.S. was committed to denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula, but China had to work harder on the issue.

On Saturday, North Korea criticized his Asia trip saying, "Reckless remarks by an old lunatic like Trump will never scare us or stop our advance".

Kim has previously described Mr Trump as a "mentally deranged U.S dotard", with Mr Trump labelling him "Little Rocket Man" in response.

Bloomberg News reported that Tillerson made the comment to reporters on board a flight from Beijing to Da Nang, Vietnam as he accompanies President Donald Trump on his Asia tour.

The extraordinary outburst came shortly after Trump contradicted his own intelligence agencies by saying he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin's claim that the Kremlin did not attempt to interfere in the 2016 election.

"Why would Kim Jon-un insult me by calling me "old", when I would never call him 'short and fat?' Oh well, I try so hard to be his friend - and maybe someday that will happen!" wrote the president in a tweet on Sunday.

"Strange things happen in life".

"The exercise is aimed at enhancing deterrence against North Korea's nuclear and missile threats and showing off preparedness to fend off any provocative acts by the North", a ministry spokesman said. "If that did happen, it would be a good thing for, I can tell you, for North Korea. I don't know if it will but it would be very, very nice", he added. There always playing politics - bad for our country.

The president is visiting China, South Korea and other countries in the region in an effort to get them to help put pressure on North Korea to curtail its pursuit of a nuclear weapons arsenal.

When he raised concerns over China's increasing military capability in the South China Sea, Mr Duterte said Mr Xi replied, "No, it's nothing".

Despite the lack of progress on North Korea, China's lavish "gift pack" of trade deals should be enough to satisfy the deal-making Trump, Wu said.

Trump has often equated personal relationships with foreign leaders with broader United States foreign policy, speaking often about his friendship with Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his warm regard for China's Xi Jinping. "The president wants to build upon that to really build our relations with Asean".

"He also said the USA has "two or three channels" in which they can send messages to Kim and receive them back".
