This week on 60 Minutes, three-time Olympic gold medal gymnast Aly Raisman tells correspondent Dr. Jon LaPook that she was sexually abused by former USA Gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar.
RAISMAN: Why are we looking at why didn't the girls speak up?
The sex abuse scandal led to the ouster of USA Gymnastics CEO Steve Penny, who resigned in March under pressure from the U.S. Olympic Committee.
The gymnast said she still doesn't think USA Gymnastics is doing enough.
'We want to work with Aly and all interested athletes to keep athletes safe'.
Raisman, who represented the U.S.in both the 2012 and 2016 Olympic games, decided not to speak in graphic detail about the abuse in her 60 Minutes interview. He pleaded guilty to child pornography charges but not guilty to charges of sexual assault.
Authorities revealed back in December of past year that they had discovered over 37,000 images and videos of child pornography featuring girls as young as six and a Go Pro video of Nassar molesting a group of young girls in a pool. Raisman told 60 Minutes that she met with the Federal Bureau of Investigation after the Rio Olympics, where she won a second team gold as well as silver medals in the all-around and floor exercise.
"I was just really innocent, I didn't really know, you know, you don't think that of someone, so I trusted him", Raisman said.
"In the previous year, Aly has become an advocate for many issues, and sharing her personal experience of abuse takes great courage", USA Gymnastics said. Over 130 women have filed civil lawsuits against Nassar. She said that from the moment that she realized what happened to her, she has wanted to talk about it and knew it was "the right thing" to do.
'It seemed whenever and wherever this man could find the chance, I was "treated".
Most touchingly, Aly revealed that she received a letter from a 14-year-old girl just a few days after she spoke out about her abuse. "I really thought he was my friend". She was 15 at the time. That "treatment" began when Maroney was 13 and continued through her stellar performance at the 2012 Olympics.

Affected passengers have been told to make "alternative arrangements", but it's unclear whether they'll get immediate refunds. Hawaii aviation historian Peter Forman said the airline made it harder on itself once it moved to larger aircraft.
The athlete previously criticized USA Gymnastics in an interview with The Guardian back in August.
"I am angry. I'm really upset", Raisman told "60 Minutes", per USA Today. "It should have never ever happened and I think that needs to be discussed more".
"I want to create change", she insists.
She also once again spoke about how the young fans factor in to this, and how important it is to her that they have a safe environment.
"Nobody ever educated me on, 'Make sure you're not alone with an adult.' You know, 'Make sure he's not making you uncomfortable.' I didn't know the signs. I want to do more", she said. Nassar still faces 22 state charges in MI over allegations that he sexually assaulted children, and convictions in those cases could result in a life sentence. A third Olympian, Sydney bronze medalist Jamie Dantzscher, has also said she was abused by Nassar.
"Aly's passion and concern for athlete safety is shared by USA Gymnastics", the statement said.
She went on to state: 'Dr.
'You know, my teammates and I were all sitting at the table, and they did not come over to say hi to us or to congratulate us'. "You know he was a doctor and he told me that his treatment would help heal all of my injuries".
The woman were joined on Tuesday by Dominique Moceanu, a 1996 gold medalist and teammate of Strug, who described a 'culture of fear, intimidation and humiliation, established by Bela and Marta Karolyi'. Raisman, 23, explained that while she always thought Dr. Larry Nassar "was weird", she didn't realize until later that what he had done to her was abuse.
