The former governor challenged the validity of the proceedings in court but lost and thereafter appealed the decision.

On his part, Amaechi was said to be on official tour to Rivers State when the incident occurred.

"The Minister of Transportation had over 50 SARS Personnel, Soldiers and Mobile Policemen in his motorcade".

"Firstly, the purported award itself is a contradiction of monumental proportions, a contradiction that can only come from a warped and perverted mind".

While Wike had claimed that he was attacked, Amaechi alleged that he was nearly killed by the governors security aides.

In a statement, the former Rivers governor said although he eventually passed through unhurt, his vehicle was "vandalised with a broken side mirror".

IYM, through its President-General, Azubuike Nwanjoku, a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly, representing Ikwerre constituency, in an online statement by the group's National Publicity Secretary, Dike Bekwele, declared that Wike's action was suicidal and detrimental to the already-charged environment being witnessed in the state and insecurity in Rivers in recent times.

"Prince Princewill also asked why the attempt by Amaechi, who was driving the auto, to navigate his vehicle out of danger was prevented by two security men from Rivers governor's convoy, who pulled their pistols to shoot him, but when Wike's security men realised that the vehicle that the minister was driving was bullet-proofed, they resorted to hitting the jeep with the butts of their guns and in the process broke the right driving mirror and attempted to break Amaechi's windscreen". They hit the vehicle, tried to smash the windscreens, back and side windows and broke a side mirror.

Tonye Princewill went further to ask, "why did an attempt by Amaechi who was behind the steering to navigate his vehicle out of danger was accosted by two security men from the Governor's convoy who had pulled out their pistol and gun to shoot him". The minister had arrived Port Harcourt this afternoon (Saturday).

Rivers Police Command spokesman Nnamdi Omoni, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), confirmed that a probe had been launched into the incident and the involvement of policemen.

"The minister eventually passed through after the intervention of the security team on the ground to protect him in Port Harcourt". All through this attack, Amaechi remained calm, inside the fortified Jeep. "Suddenly, gun-toting security men attached to Wike's convoy, surrounded the minister's vehicle, threatening to shoot him". "The policeman's rifle was also taken from him".

"If APC chairman is calling for arrest and prosecution of Wike's CSO, what do we do to the policemen that attacked the Rivers governor's escort rider?"

DAILY POST had reported that a major disaster was averted when Amaechi and Wike met on Saturday at a cross road in Nwanja area of Elekahia road, Port Harcourt where both political leaders traded assassination claims.

According to the statement, the Minister narrowly escaped being shot by security men attached to Wike.
