Amazon will produce 'Lord of the Rings' TV series

CREDIT New Line Cinema

The TV adaptation will cover different ground, focusing on "previously unexplored stories based on J.R.R. Tolkien's original writings", Matt Galsor, a representative for the Tolkien Estate and Trust and HarperCollins, said in a statement. The deal also leaves open the possibility of a spin-off series down the line, too.

Cast and crew haven't been picked yet so I'm sure you'll see plenty of sites with their dream casting but it's kind of hard to cast for fun when you don't know any of the characters that will be featured in this.

Given that Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy won a combined 17 Oscars and, when you throw in the three Hobbit movies, grossed almost $6 billion worldwide, you would think that the entertainment industry might be inclined to leave it way-more-than-well-enough alone.

Logan Melgar was found dead in embassy housing and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service is probing his death as a homicide. . Donald Bolduc, then commander of Special Operations Command-Africa, was suspicious of the two SEALs' story from the start.

Amazon could choose to follow Bilbo Baggins' adventures after The Hobbit, it could chart the return of Sauron to Mordor, or Aragorn's time in exile as a ranger and the blossoming of his romance with Arwen. Collectively the three "Lord of the Rings" films directed by Peter Jackson grossed more than $2.9 billion internationally. Burned out on Middle-Earth stuff?

That's all set to change soon, though, with Amazon today announcing it has acquired the rights for a small-screen adaptation of The Lord of the Rings novels. "That is just for the rights, before any costs for development, talent, and production, in proposition whose finances many industry observers called 'insane, '" Deadline writes. "It's pretty evident that it takes big shows to move the needle". Given Bezos' desire for his company to control the entertainment universe, or at least own a TV show that has mass appeal, expect them to spare no expense when it comes to creating an experience unlike few others on your television screen.

Chances are, no matter what, you're going to get an Amazon Prime account in order to find out.
