Nintendo to Drastically Increase Switch Production

Nintendo To Increase Switch Production; Planning To Ship 50 Million Units By April 2019

Nintendo is planning to increase the Switch production considerably in the near future to meet market demand, according to a report.

Just last month, Nintendo updated its fiscal year 2017-2018 forecast for the Switch to 17 million units sold by March 2018, the console's 13th month on sale. In other words, the Switch could beat the Wii U in under a year with a big holiday marketing push, and in all likelihood it'll eclipse it early in 2018.

During the current fiscal year, which runs from April 2017 through March 2018, Nintendo expects to sell 14 million Switch units. It now looks like holiday season sales for Nintendo Switch (Amazon, $299.99) could catch up to the Wii figures.

Nintendo has reportedly begun informing business partners about these plans. Although Microsoft has long since stopped reporting Xbox One sales numbers, the company is believed to have sold somewhere around 30 million units to date. Nomura Securities analyst Junko Yamamura, the outlet says, predicts the console will sell "115.8 million units by March 2023".

Nintendo had already said that it would be increasing expected shipments in this fiscal year as well during its last financial briefing on October 31. Nintendo sold just over 100 million Wiis over the console's lifetime.
