A wide ranging group of House Republicans said on Thursday that they are prepared to work to pass new legislation that would assist those in the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA, by the end of the year.

President Donald Trump announced in September he would end the DACA, which was spearheaded by former President Barack Obama's executive order and protected thousands of undocumented immigrants who were brought into the USA illegally as children.

Students marched on Capitol Hill Thursday to pressure members of Congress to pass a "clean" Dream Act.

Almost two dozen House Republicans on Thursday pressed Speaker Paul Ryan to act quickly on legislation that would protect the DACA participants.

At the rally Thursday, Benitez asked attendees to urge their representatives in Congress, especially Rep. Doug Lamborn, R-Colorado Springs, to sponsor and support a "clean" Dream Act (meaning, legislation to create a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients without also boosting interior enforcement or funding the southern border wall). Protesters urged Congress to pass permanent DACA protections for "DREAMers" brought to the USA illegally as children. "Los Angeles County is home to the nation's largest concentration of DACA recipients", he said. Kristina Saccone, a spokeswoman for D.C. Public Schools, said the protest was not a sanctioned school event and students who participated received unexcused early dismissals. "We can not turn our backs on them, as they are part of the fabric of our society, making significant contributions to our culture and economy". "So, we're going to let dreamers do this, but we're going to go after their families with increased boarder security".

Ja'el Knott, a WFU student from Mooresville, said that WFU President Nathan Hatch should publicly support the Dream Act and that the university should establish a website that supports WFU's undocumented students. Kamala Harris, one of the administration's fiercest critics, that the government would not use personal information it has compiled through the program to track down individuals whose DACA permits expire and deport them.
