BMW Headquarters Raided Over Emissions 'Collusion' With Rivals

Offices of Germany's BMW raided by EU competition officials this week

The European Commission, which refused to confirm the company targeted, said it "can confirm that as of October 16, 2017 its officials carried out an unannounced inspection at the premises of a auto manufacturer in Germany".

EU competition officials carried out a raid this week at the offices of a German carmaker, the European Commission said today.

The European Commission has widened its cartel investigation and has revealed that its officials carried out unannounced inspections at auto manufacturer across Germany.

BMW's headquarters in Munich has been raided by the European Union as they look for evidence the vehicle giant was part of a cartel with its German peers.

The investigation came after a report in Der Spiegel in July that claimed BMW, Daimler, Volkswagen, Porsche and Audi had held secret meetings since the 1990s to collude on certain technology.

The officials ruled it a touchdown on the field, and after a review, the call stood. "What an exciting play", Wilson said. Seattle got the ball at the Giants 37 after Jarran Reed sacked Manning and forced a fumble that Frank Clark recovered.

Daimler reported a possible cartel as part of the EU's leniency program that allows firms to dodge fines for being the first in line to report wrongdoing, Chief Financial Officer Bodo Uebber said last week, confirming previous press reports.

BMW in July denied any collusion with industry rivals on emissions from its diesel engines, saying none of its models had been "manipulated" or violated industry regulations. "The fact that the Commission carries out inspections does not mean that the inspected companies are guilty of anti-competitive behaviour, nor does it prejudge the outcome of the investigation itself".

The Commission said in a statement that it had conducted an "unannounced inspection" at a German automaker.

Volkswagen refused comment, but added that its offices were not targeted. Other manufacturers including Daimler are suspected of doing the same.
