Marco Silva slams Troy Deeney's Arsenal comments: Watford skipper should shut up

Jack Wilshere has hit back at Troy Deeney and labelled the Watford striker's comments 'horrible'

Watford striker Deeney came off the bench and equalised with a penalty before Tom Cleverley secured a 2-1 comeback win for Marco Silva's side over the Gunners in the Premier League on Saturday.

Arsene Wenger believes Troy Deeney's comments that his Arsenal team lack character are without justification.

But Silva was furious with the 29-year-old for focusing on Arsenal instead of his side and made it clear he only expects him to talk about Watford in the future.

"Troy Deeney knows my opinion on this", the Watford boss said.

'This is a platform for him to prove first of all his fitness, then his ability and then he's got to then get into the A team to play in the Premier League.

Silva added: "For my players we must look inside and not outside and respect ourselves, as well". People try and put us down, they always have.

Wilshere refuted the claim before their Europa League game, saying that Arsenal's character could not be questioned.

The 25-year-old is quoted by The Telegraph as saying: "As a player, if your attitude is questioned, it's awful. I think at the moment it's going like that", the Frenchman said.

"In the end we got the victor because I think they defended very well with a lot of determination". "I don't think we can look back and question our character - we did certain things wrong but we certainly did not want to let the lead slip".

"I love my players and I trust their strength of character to respond quickly".

"In the (previous) seven games we had six wins and one draw".
