Pixel 2 Has A Hidden Image Processor Called The Pixel Visual Core

Google Pixel 2 Lands In Verizon Stores Tomorrow

Google has recently announced its two new devices Google Pixel 2 and the Pixel XL 2, and as you all are aware most of the smartphone companies are going for a Dual-Camera setup on their flagships while Google has stuck to the single sensor only.

The best part is, image quality will keep on improving, as Google can push out Pixel Visual Core updates to enhance the phones' mobile photography game. Google shared several sample comparison images, with the images shot the Pixel Visual Core offering both brighter shadows like in a backlit selfie, and enhanced highlights, like a sky that's a bit bluer. It's kind of odd that such a major hardware addition was never mentioned during Google's Pixel 2 event, but hopefully this little secret weapon will soon give a boost of adrenaline to an already outstanding camera.

Once Google flips the switch on the image processor, what users will notice is the superb HDR+ of the Pixel 2.

Joining the Snapdragon 835 SoC in the Pixel 2 phones is a second SoC, the "Pixel Visual Core" for hardware accelerated image processing.

NBC And Snap Partner On New Digital Studio
The new studio will be located in Santa Monica, in between Snap's Venice home and Entertainment's offices in Burbank. NBC executive Lauren Anderson will lead the content studio.

Using the new chip, HDR+ can run five times faster than running on the application processor, and at less than a tenth of the energy. The Pixel Visual Core could very well be the first step to Google taking on Qualcomm.

Long-presses which bring up re-designed pop-up menus for apps and the home screen on the Pixel 2, also feature in the Nova Launcher, alongside the new icon animations brought in with the latest Pixel Launcher.

Google plans to ultimately enable the Pixel Visual Core for third-party apps too, meaning you'll be able to take advantage of it even if you don't use Google's camera app.

Google's Pixel 2 has arguably the best take on Android around, with it's slick Pixel Launcher making navigating Android 8.0 Oreo a joy when compared to other phones with heavy skins and user interfaces over the mobile operating system.
