Mob chants 'Jai Shri Ram', vandalizes Padmavati Rangoli

Deepika Padukone

Lately, the film has been in headlines due to the revelation of the first looks of the star cast including Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor.

However, this time around Deepika Padukone is not taking things lying down and has made a decision to put a stop to the vilification of her film.

An artist in Gujarat has alleged that a mob had vandalised his rangoli on Deepika Padukone's Padmavati after it took him 48 hours to complete the art.

"The rangoli artist Karan had posted about the attack on Twitter and written, "#Padmavati Rangoli Controversy!

She also tagged Smriti Irani in her tweets and requested her to take some action. "Who are these people?Who is responsible for their actions? For how long are we going to let this go on?". (Till when we will) Allow them to take law into their own hands & attack our freedom & right to individual expression time & again!?

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati could easily be called 2017's most anticipated film.

In the film, Deepika plays the role of Rajput queen Padmavati, while Shahid will be seen as Maharawal Ratan Singh and Ranveer will essay the role of Alauddin Khilji.

Earlier, a Rajput group had given an open threat to the makers of the film to burn cinema houses and multiplexes if they are not shown special screening of the film to know that it suits their sentiments.

Following the incident, film's team cancelled its shooting in Jaipur and Bhansali's production house had to release a statement clarifying the "misconception" about the film's story. Activists of the group had in January vandalised the set of the movie at Jaigarh Fort here, alleging that the director was "distorting facts". The ace filmmaker was attacked by protesters in Jaipur where the set of the movie was trashed by the Karni Sena in Kolhapur.
