Khamenei urges European Union to stand against U.S. on nuclear deal issue

Official: Tehran has plan if US withdraws from nuclear pact

Tehran, Oct 18 Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei today dismissed US President Donald Trump's aggressive criticism as the "rants and whoppers" of a "brute".

Speaking in a Wednesday meeting with a group of elite students in Tehran, Ayatollah Khamenei strongly condemned Europe for reiterating the United States remarks about Iran's regional presence and missile program, saying that such issues are none of their business.

"Renegotiation is impossible because ... neither Iran nor Europeans, China and Russian Federation would participate in any renegotiation of JCPOA", he said, naming the powers that helped the previous U.S. administration negotiate the deal with Iran, aimed at curbing its nuclear work in exchange for sanctions relief. "We do not think it is acceptable for the Europeans to join America in its bullying". "We welcome this approach but it's not enough that they only tell him not to tear up the deal".

Iran's energy industry has recovered following the removal of sanctions early past year, yet its oil exports face a challenge after Trump threatened last week to ditch the global agreement that lifted the trade restrictions. "Europe must stand against practical measures (taken) by America", he said.

"I don't want to waste my time by responding to the nonsense remarks made by the rude president of the US". His call with Rouhani came shortly after Trump's bellicose speech criticising the deal, and Macron said he would visit Iran "at the appropriate time".

"But we will try on our side to obtain the comfort that we can continue the project, which will be our priority", he added.
