Uber has appealed TfL's decision not to renew its London licence

Uber Seeks More London Negotiations as It Appeals License Ban

Uber Technologies Inc. appealed a London regulator's decision to revoke the vehicle service's license as it seeks more settlement talks.

Uber, criticised by London Mayor Sadiq Khan for employing an "army of lawyers", said that it hoped to keep talking to TfL to find a way forward.

Last month, Transport for London (TfL) refused Uber a new private hire licence, saying the ride-hailing firm was not fit and proper.

Uber on Friday filed its appeal against a decision by London authorities not to renew its licence, the United States ride-hailing company said.

It said in a statement it was hoping to "continue having constructive discussions with Transport for London".

Uber will continue to operate in London throughout the whole appeal process, which could take up to a year or more. The licence decision had cited concerns including Uber's approach to reporting criminal offences, how it conducted medical and criminal checks on drivers, and whether software employed to evade regulation was being used in London. In his open letter Khosrowshahi vowed to make things right with for Uber, so that it can still drive through the streets of London.

The market is Uber's most important in Europe, where it claims to have some 3.5 million users and around 40,000 drivers.

His predecessor, Travis Kalanick, left the company following allegations that managers didn't adequately address reports of sexual harassment. Khosrowshahi apologized for "the mistakes" the company had made.

Uber will challenge the licence decision "with the knowledge that we must also change", he said.

In addition, the ride-hailing firm launched an online petition that over got over 850,000 online signatures, before the Uber CEO and TfL boss Mike Brown met to discuss Uber's future.
