Target Hosts Seasonal Hiring Event This Weekend at All Chicago-Area Stores

Amazon to Add 120000 Holiday Workers, Same as Last Year

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. plans to give its in-store employees more hours, but also add 5,000 extra seasonal workers at its e-commerce business.

Amazon.com Inc (AMZN) said it would hire 120,000 workers in the United States this holiday season, same as previous year, as the online behemoth prepares for the holiday shopping frenzy.

The new hires will pick, pack and ship customer orders.

The Maryland jobs are just a fraction of the 120,000 seasonal positions Amazon hopes to fill nationwide this fall.

Target will host several hiring events this weekend to bring on 2,500 holiday workers for its Chicago area stores - as part of the retailer's plans to hire up to 100,000 seasonal team members across the country.

Amazon said it employs more than 125,000 full-time workers at more than 75 fulfillment warehouses across the USA - a number likely to be updated when the company reports third-quarter earnings in the coming weeks.

The surge of temporary help will almost double the number of the workers it has at its fulfillment centers, sorting centers and customer service sites.

"We prepare year round for the holidays and we're excited to hire for over 120,000 positions this season to help delight our customers", said Dave Clark, Amazon's senior vice president of global customer fulfillment, in a statement.
