According to The Investor, Apple has partnered with LG to make a foldable screen rather than Samsung (which is Apple's current OLED screen supplier), a decision which may apparently have been made due to concerns that Samsung would get access to sensitive tech.
There are rumors that Apple is working on a new display technology with LG display. With the Galaxy creator reportedly getting closer to releasing the first-ever foldable phone, Apple has already begun making moves to manufacture its own version of the bendable smartphone - with the help of another competitor, LG. So that means Samsung is charging as high as it wants to produce those screens, and Apple has no choice but to pay up. If Samsung hits a home run with their new Note foldable smartphone likely to debut next year, then Apple will race like hell to enter this category. The report claims Apple isn't planning to put a bending handset into production until 2020.
However, Apple and LG's partnership may not be seeing fruit until 2020, giving Samsung quite a large window to go one-up on its rival.
Samsung is now the sole manufacturer of the OLED displays, NAND flash and DRAM chip in quantities required by Apple for its iPhones.
Apple is said to be speeding up the production process of the folding screens by investing in the construction of a new LG Display manufacturing facility, called E6.

Samsung has been dabbling in foldable displays for years, and it'll be exciting to finally see the culmination of those experiments. However, the report adds that foldable display panel production for iPhones may start by early 2019.
