Iran tests new medium-range missile, defying USA warnings

After Trump's UN speech prepare for our enemies to call his bluff

It included video from an on-board camera which it said showed the detachment of the cone that carries multiple warheads.

Iran says it has successfully tested a new-medium range missile, in defiance of US President Donald Trump.

President Donald Trump on Saturday bashed the Iran nuclear agreement after Tehran said it had test-fired a new ballistic missile and would keep developing weapons despite US pressure.

Trump has been critical of the 2015 nuclear deal the United States and other world powers struck with Iran.

Washington considers Tehran's ballistic missile tests to be a violation of the United Nations resolution that endorsed JCPOA.

"And we can not abide by an agreement if it provides cover for the eventual construction of a nuclear program", he said in his address at the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Though Iran has long boasted of having missiles in the same range in its arsenal, it was the first time that the Khoramshahr, with a range of 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles) was displayed in public.

"On the one hand Iran is trying to demonstrate they are the pragmatic rational actor here and maintain unity among the other signatories of the nuclear agreement, even if from the United States side it starts to unravel", Vakil told CNN. Friday's parade also showcased various Iranian army units and Revolutionary Guard forces, as well as the police.

Thousands of worshippers marched after Friday prayers in Tehran, chanting "Death to America" and "Death to Israel".

Iran's defense minister said Saturday that foreign pressures would not affect Iran's missile program.

Rouhani accused Trump of attempting to sabotage the nuclear agreement between Iran and six world powers. "We won't ask anybody's permission to defend our people".

Trump said on Wednesday he had made his decision but was not yet ready to reveal it.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said tensions on the Korean peninsula underlined the importance of the Iranian deal, and that China would continue to support it.

In Syria, Iran is a close ally of President Bashar Assad.

Iran says all of its missiles are created to carry conventional warheads only and has limited their range to a maximum of 2,000km, although commanders say they have the technology to go further.
