North Korea has launched in what it says are tests of several missiles, some of which are believed to be able to strike the United States.

Donald Trump has hit back at Kim Jong Un after the North Korean dictator called him "deranged" in a bullish statement.

The president said "tolerance for this disgraceful practice must end now".

A suspected detected a magnitude 3.4 natural disaster in North Korea, China's earth quake administration confirms that on Saturday. That development was reported by Reuters Thursday.

Pyongyang has been slapped with even tougher United Nations sanctions after it conducted its sixth and most powerful nuclear test on 3 September, prompting Trump to use "fire and fury" if necessary and not ruling out military intervention.

But experts have warned against USA leadership using bombastic language.

Trump also announced new USA -imposed sanctions against North Korea on Thursday, which would force countries to choose between doing business with the US, an economic juggernaut, or isolated North Korea. For its part, North Korea called Trump's speech "the sound of a dog barking".

Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho said it "could be the most powerful detonation of an H-bomb in the Pacific", according to South Korea's Yonhap news agency.

"The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea", the president said in his address.

Trump spoke Thursday at a meeting in NY with the president of Afghanistan.

In Brussels, diplomatic sources told AFP that the European Union had agreed to a new package of measures, including a ban on investments in North Korea and on European Union exports of oil.

The three leaders will also meet over lunch.
