Oakland A's support catcher Bruce Maxwell kneeling during national anthem

A’s catcher Bruce Maxwell kneeled during the national anthem before his team’s game on Saturday

After Trump's comments urging National Football League owners to fire any players who kneel for the anthem, Maxwell posted a tweet from Andrew Steinthal that suggested that all National Football League players should kneel for the anthem on Sunday.

This comes one day after a speech by President Donald Trump on Friday during which he said national anthem protestors should be fired, comments that were called "divisive" by the NFL. Maxwell wrote. "Our president speaks of inequality of man because players are protesting the anthem!"

Shortly after his action, the A's released a statement supporting Maxwell's actions. "We respect and support all of our players' constitutional rights and freedom of expression".

The African-American Maxwell was actually born in Germany, on a military base.

Barcelona put three goals past Girona
Girona succeeded in stopping Barcelona star Lionel Messi from scoring. If only it could have avoided its own net as well. Messi scored nine goals in the first five rounds.

This is likely just the tip of the iceberg, but it's fascinating to see what finally brought baseball players into the fold. Maxwell's teammates stood in a line next to him.

Here is a photo of Maxwell kneeling from Santiago Mejia of the San Francisco Chronicle.

"Bruce has made it clear that he is taking a stand about what he perceives as racial injustices in this country, and his personal disappointment with President Trump's response to a number of professional athletes' totally peaceful, non-violent protests".
