Fan Struck by Foul Ball at Yankee Stadium

0:41 | MLB 2017 Is Officially The Year of The Long Ball in MLB

A little girl was struck in the face this week by a foul ball at Yankee stadium.

One day after a young girl was struck by a foul ball at Yankee Stadium, players are calling on Major League Baseball to expand netting at all stadiums.

After Wednesday's game, Yankees and Twins players called for the protective netting to be extended at all stadiums that haven't done so, Yankee Stadium included.

The girl was taken to a NY hospital where her father and grandfather briefly spoke to reporters.

The game was delayed for about five minutes as medics attended to her. Yankees third baseman Todd Frazier looked visibly upset, while teammate Matt Holliday wiped away tears. Very unlucky, man. I have two kids under three years old and I thought of them. "It's a tough thing to watch", Sabathia said.

Following the game against the Minnesota Twins, Yankees Manager Joe Girardi told reporters that members of the team's security staff had informed him that the girl was doing all right. While a handful of teams have acquiesced to the concept of more netting, the Yankees remain holdouts. He said he always makes sure they sit behind netting or are out from the path of a potentially unsafe foul ball when they attend games in the Bronx. Rafael Espinal, who introduced legislation in May to require all New York City baseball stadiums to have protective netting all the way to the foul poles, said after Wednesday's episode that he would hold a public hearing on the issue on October 25.

A New York City councilman introduced a bill in May calling for ballparks with at least a seating capacity of 5,000 to install protective netting that extends to the foul poles. "When it happened there was some controversy about how far they would go in their mandate I think the clubs that have gone beyond what was required have been glad that they did, and I wouldn't be surprised if it gets readdressed and they continue to try to expand what they're trying to do to protect the fans". "But I just feel like we need to get the net".

"You want to keep your eyes up and your eye on the game", Hoy said.

Yahoo Sports MLB columnist Jeff Passan has since slammed the league for their "morally repugnant" refusal to make safety nets compulsory for every team.

All 30 teams have met new Major League Baseball standards that netting extend 70 feet down the foul lines, but only nine teams have extended netting past that.

MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred commented on fan safety following the incident on Wednesday, saying netting "remains an ongoing discussion". That's it. I don't care about the damn view of the fan or what.

"I still have a knot in my stomach", Dozier said. I know - Target Field being the closest to home plate, so we put up a little rule that a certain amount of distance you gotta have one.
