US, S Korea to maximise economic, diplomatic pressure on North

US national security advisor H.R. Mc Master speaks during the daily briefing accompanied by US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley at the White House in Washington on 15 September 2017

He was referring to an accelerating series of missile tests by North Korea that have defied US and global warnings to stop.

'I spoke with President Moon of South Korea last night.

The President is not well, and the American people must demand that he be stopped.

Weather data for areas in China that border North Korea's main crop zones show rains picked up from August, helping to alleviate dry conditions. Their time overseas may give them some of the exposure needed to contextualize Trump, but North Korean diplomats are at a huge disadvantage here to South Korean ones.

Kang was referring to the period in South Korean history when former President Kim Dae-jung ended Cold War-era hostilities with the rival North through acts of reconciliation.

While hardly any North Koreans have sufficient exposure to the outside world to supply this context on their own, North Korean diplomats are a possible exception.

North Koreans are often depicted as repressed or brainwashed, marching obediently under the watchful gaze of their leader in military parades during national holidays, or shouting chants, praising Kim Jong Un.

But according to Kang, structural weaknesses of the regime are giving way to people power in new ways.

It's unclear how Japan - or United States - will respond. "At first they are grateful just for the three meals a day they receive as compensation, but once outside they will realize" what they are missing, he added.

Lim and other North Koreans were allowed only an hour for lunch despite heat exhaustion. "And at that point there is not a whole lot the security council is going to be able to do from here when you have cut 90% of the trade and 30% of the oil", she said.

While the North Korean dictator welcomed the most recent test as a "shining victory", the missile launch has fueled concerns for aviation safety, prompting airlines to consider issuing no-fly zones over the territory controlled by the rogue state.

'Vicious' Sanctions Will Only Speed Up Nuclear Program: North Korea
The U.S. military released 24 photos of the latest show of force, an apparent message to North Korea and the global community. Russia and China have also begun naval exercises not far from the Russia-North Korea border, to the north of Japan .

He pinpointed China as the principle supplier of oil to North Korea and added that Russian Federation has over 30,000 foreign laborers from North Korea, whose wages return to North Korea.

"Then they become 300,000 defectors", Kang said.

The Security Council last Monday imposed a new raft of sanctions on North Korea - but their impact depends largely on whether China, Pyongyang's ally and main economic partner, will fully implement them and on Russian Federation, which is hosting tens of thousands of North Korean workers.

And Trump tweets that he's asked Moon about "Rocket Man" - an apparent reference to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un (kim jawng oon).

Moon has insisted and continues to insist that dialogue is the only viable means to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue, but says dialogue with Pyongyang is not now possible.

Analysts say that in the event of hostilities, millions of people in the Seoul area - as well as the 30,000 USA troops in South Korea - would be vulnerable to attack by the thousands of artillery pieces the North has positioned near the border, with potentially staggering casualties.

The call for a fundamental solution to the North Korean nuclear standoff comes after the communist North staged its sixth nuclear test on September 3, following a series of missile tests that led to a new sanctions resolution by the UN Security Council (UNSC) last month.

Kim, like all North Koreans, also has access to an assortment of Korean-language summaries of Trump's statements, including in Rodong Sinmun, North Korea's party newspaper.

Conservative governments have a tough stance towards North Korea, while liberal administrations seek dialogue and engagement with Pyongyang.

Trump will kick off the week with a meeting about United Nations reform on Monday.
