Tigers thrashed by Purdue in demoralizing loss

Purdue's Tario Fuller right outruns Missouri's Chris Turner left during the first half of an NCAA college football game Saturday Sept. 16 2017 in Columbia Mo

After a poor performance last weekend against SC, the explosive Missouri offense from week one was again nowhere to be found, as the Tigers were unable to muster a single touchdown on the day.

Missouri managed just 203 yards of total offense while Purdue scored touchdowns on its first three drives of the game and led 28-3 at halftime. Blough finished with 187 yards on 22-of-28 passing with a touchdown, plus rushed for a score, and for the second straight week he didn't have a turnover.

Under first-year coach Jeff Brohm, Purdue is showing signs of life. Elijah Sindelar completed 4 of 6 passes for 85 yards and one touchdown. I just did my job, however many plays I had to do it and that's what I'm trying to focus on. Tario Fuller carried 19 times for 90 yards and a score. Missouri quarterback Drew Lock completed 12 of 28 passes for 133 yards with two interceptions.

Purdue resumed its dominance in the second half, with linebacker Markus Bailey intercepting an underthrown sideline pass from Lock on the opening drive.

The second interception came in the fourth quarter, when Lock tossed a gorgeous pass to wideout J'Mon Moore in the end zone only to have the ball snatched from Moore's hand by Purdue cornerback Kamal Hardy.

No Sherman against 49ers? No problem
While both corners proved to be up to the challenge, each will likely be counted on to play large roles again against the 49ers. And typically the Seahawks have beaten the 49ers by getting back to basics, averaging 160 yards rushing in those four wins.

Sophomore running back Damarea Crockett had a poor day as well after rushing for a combined 299 yards in the first two games of the season.

Maybe Michigan fans have a reason to fear the Boilermakers after today, or maybe we as Purdue fans can be looking like this heading into next Saturday's game.

As it has been through the early part of the season, the Tigers' defense was a major issue, with Missouri giving up 477 total yards and a season-high 205 yards on the ground. Purdue had the ball for 43:43, compared to Missouri's 16:17.

"I think we all know how much potential this team has", Crockett said.

MISSOURI: The Tigers return to Southeastern Conference play with a home game against Auburn.
