Spartak Moscow loon fires flare towards referee during Champions League game

Spartak fans

UEFA have opened disciplinary proceedings against Spartak Moscow after a flare was sacked onto the pitch during their Champions League game against NK Maribor.

And the latest trouble is less than 12 months before the World Cup finals in Russian Federation.

The flare was sacked from the stand containing the visiting fans and came close to hitting German official Deniz Aytekin during Spartak's 1-1 draw at the Slovenian champions on Wednesday.

It is far from the first time that Spartak's fans have overshadowed the team's efforts. Spartak and Maribor drew 1-1, with an Aleksandr Samedov goal in the 59th minute canceled out by a Damjan Bohar equalizer in the 85th.

Jurgen Klopp's side were held to a 2-2 draw by La Liga side Sevilla, meaning things are all square in Group E going into the second matchday.

Elsewhere in the Champions League, the holders Real Madrid got their defence off to a winning start in Group H with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring twice and Sergio Ramos adding a third against Apoel Nicosia.
