United States lawmakers want 'supercharged' response to N.Korea nuclear tests

German Chancellor Angela Merkel attends an election campaign inside the walk-in campaign program in Berlin

The new draft, obtained Monday by The Associated Press, would ban North Korea from importing natural gas liquids and condensates and cap its import of refined petroleum products and crude oil.

Monday's vote is seen as a key test of resolve for the council, which united last month to adopt a resolution meant to reduce the impoverished country's export earnings by up to a billion dollars.

Japanese PM Shinzo Abe also said that he highly appreciates "a remarkably tough sanctions resolution".

The uptick in traffic between the two countries also coincided with previous United Nations sanctions that banned fuel shipments from a state-owned company from China.

During a meeting of experts Friday, China and Russian Federation, which both supply North Korea with oil, opposed the measures as a whole. Both had expressed skepticism over the strict sanctions.

Pyongyang has staged a series of missile tests in recent months, culminating in an intercontinental ballistic missile that appeared to bring much of the U.S. mainland into range - ramping up tensions and earning itself a seventh set of UN Security Council sanctions.

On the other hand, Chung Kap-su, another second-generation Korean in the town, said he hopes North Korea stops further provocations and pursues a peaceful path by seeking dialogue with South Korea.

"T$3 he world will never accept a nuclear-armed North Korea", she said.

Despite the impending vote on potentially painful economic sanctions, the atmosphere in Pyongyang over the weekend was one of celebration. Similar celebrations were held after the successful test of the Hwasong-14 intercontinental ballistic missile, on which Kim Jong Un plans to mount his newest bomb.

Some 93,000 North Koreans work overseas, providing Kim's regime with a source of revenue to develop its missile and nuclear programs, according to a United States official familiar with the negotiations. Peru's envoy, Maria Antonia Masana Garcia, said North Korea's ambassador to her country would be considered persona non grata.

NATO urges tougher implementation of North Korea sanctions
Ambassador Nikki Haley said North Korea was " begging for war " and called for tougher sanctions against the Kim Jong Un regime. He added, " Sanctions are only half a solution, so dialogue and negotiations should be carried out together".

North Korea must stop behaving badly
The demand contradicted the stance of their host, Russian President Vladimir Putin , who has dismissed sanctions as a solution. Nebenzia called that date "a little premature" and stressed that a military option should be "ruled out of any discussions".

Barcelona Ask Philippe Coutinho to Refuse to Face Sevilla in Champions League
The quickest, easiest way to end all of this as quickly as possible is to cup tie the player at the earliest possible moment. Liverpool return to Champions League action with a home clash against Sevilla at Anfield on Wednesday night.

General Shin added: "We can now build ballistic missiles that can slam through deep underground bunkers where Kim Jong-un would be hiding".

The plot emerges after North Korea was hit by a raft of sanctions created to strangle its economy.

North Korean leader Kim attended the glitzy event himself, where footage purportedly showing the explosion was played, accompanied by a full string orchestra.

Ethnic Koreans living in Japan are nervously watching growing tensions over North Korea and are wary of a possible backlash against their community as Pyongyang ramps up its sabre-rattling.

Last week, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that implementing a negotiations format similar to the one used for clinching Iran nuclear deal, may help settle the crisis on the Korean peninsula.

Merkel, one of the world's longest serving democratic leaders, is expected to win a fourth term in office in a September 24 vote, with polls giving her conservatives a double-digit lead over their main center-left rivals. Haley made clear that no talks or sanctions have worked to halt the regime's nuclear program.

"I could imagine such a format being used to end the North Korea conflict".

Trump told reporters at the start of a meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak that he was pleased Malaysia no longer did business with North Korea, before adding that he had just discussed the United Nations vote with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson.

Britain's U.N. Ambassador Matthew Rycroft called the resolution "very robust" and "a very significant set of additional sanctions on imports into North Korea and exports out of North Korea and other measures as well".
