Some Threaten to Harm Protesters At Kid Rock Concert

Kid Rock

Singer, rapper, and possible politician Kid Rock on Monday denied press credentials to the Detroit Free Press as he opens the new Little Caesar's Arena, saying the Free Press was unduly critical of him.

Sam Riddle, an activist with the National Action Network who served prison time in the City Hall corruption scandal, called Detroit a "bastion of White Supremacy" and said the choice of Kid Rock to open the arena was an absolute insult to Detroiters. His publicist has said he will give fans exclusive insight on his political views and aspirations following his first song at Tuesday's concert.

Kid Rock continues to tease a Republican run for U.S. Senate in MI without making an announcement.

Tuesday night is supposed to be one of simple celebration and joy.

Earlier this month, Kid Rock conducted a campaign speech in the middle of his concert in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in which he touched on Nazis, the KKK, and single mothers who "can't even take care of themselves". He criticized the government's "redistribution of wealth" to help "some deadbeat milking the system".

Tonight's appearance in Detroit is expected to be met by protests from The National Action Network's Detroit chapter, a civil rights group.

While many thousands of his fans will be in attendance for the historic show, don't expect to read a recap in the Detroit Free Press tomorrow morning because Kid Rock has reportedly banned the publication from covering the event.

The musician opens the Little Caesars Arena Tuesday night after two months of teasing a potential Republican run for U.S. Senate in MI. "And in the context of the current national racial strife, born of racist torch marches, of presidential equivocations, and of a prolonged debate about the presence of racist history in our midst, I think the Kid Rock extravaganza at a new Detroit arena is absolutely nuts". A secretary of state spokesman said staff would have to research whether "Kid Rock" could be used.

Rock, 46, has previously drawn criticism for displaying a Confederate flag during his performances.
