New Suzuki Swift Sport breaks cover at Frankfurt Motor Show

Frankfurt Motor Show 2017: Suzuki announces details of Swift Sport

Suzuki is chanelling the spirit of the Swift GTi with new hot hatch.

As promised, Suzuki presents the new Swift Sport at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The new BoosterJet gasoline unit produces 140 hp (103 kW) at 5,500 rpm and, more importantly, 230 Nm (170 lb-ft) of torque - up from 160 Nm (118 lb-ft) in the previous-generation model.

The good news is, the new vehicle is even lighter than its predecessor by some 80 kg, weighing in at just 970 kg.

The Swift Sport's chassis has been heavily modified to match its higher outputs, with the front suspension featuring thicker anti-roll bar joints and stiffer integrated hub and wheel bearings which Suzuki says results in a 15 percent increase in camber stiffness that allows for the use of softer-than-usual springs to maintain a level of compliance while improving road holding.

Beyond that, the new Swift is larger than its predecessor with a 20mm longer wheelbase and a 40mm wider wheel track, which should open up some interior space.

Thanks to the Heartect platform of the last Swift, this Sport version loses 80kg compared to its predecessor to fall under the tonne with 970kg empty.

As for the rear, Suzuki focused on providing stability at high speeds, improving toe rigidity by 1.4 times compared to its predecessor, and camber rigidity is higher by a factor of almost three.

Setting the Sport model apart from the standard Swift are more aggressive front and rear bumpers, along with twin tailpipes and a spoiler.

The company has made a decision to go with the 17-inchalloy wheels and dual exhausts to enhance the sporty appeal. Inside. there's an updated touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus of host of racey touches to help it live up to its "Sport" badge, including more supportive front seats. The latter comes with new boost and oil temperature gauges to reflect the car's sporty persona.

Inside, Swift Sport gets a D-shaped steering wheel with dimpled leather and satin finish, piano black accents and red cross-stitching. These include an advanced forward detection system, Dual Sensor Brake Support (DSBS), lane departure warning, weaving alert function, high beam assist and even adaptive cruise control, among other things.
