Leeds United are on the cusp of signing Japan worldwide midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi. The Championship promotion hopefuls have been striving to improve their links with Asia and could acquire their first ever signing from the Land of the Rising Sun.
Sportsmail understands the Elland Road outfit have discussed terms with the 21-year-old Gamba Osaka player ahead of a potential move in January and are ready to approach his club with a bid.
The Japanese global has been a revelation for Osaka since putting pen to paper for his first professional deal back in 2014 as an 18-year-old.
It also comes on the back of former Japan global Toshiya Fujita being named as their head of recruitment in the Asian market, as reported by the Yorkshire Evening Post, and club owner Andrea Radrizzani visiting land of the rising sun in late summer.
Having announced that the club were close to signing a big surprise from Asia, Leeds' sporting director Victor Orta was actually referring to the J-League side midfielder. He was named as the J-League's young player of the year last season after Osaka finished sixth in the table. He has since racked up 96 appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals.
Ideguchi made his debut for his country earlier in the year, and is likely to be named in the squad for the World Cup next summer if he can continue his form for the next nine months.
He recently scored the second goal for Japan in a 2-0 win over Australia, which enabled qualification for Japan for World Cup in 2018 in Russian Federation.
Ideguchi, who seems to be the player Orta was on about, is no doubt a talented player but a move for the four-times Japan global would also be likely to put Leeds on the map in Japan and benefit them financially.
