Barack Obama to host two-day global summit in Chicago

Obama said his foundation wants to “inspire and empower people to change the world”

Former President Obama announced in a new video Wednesday that he will gather together civic leaders from around the world next month to take part in the inaugural Obama Foundation Summit.

Obama described his foundation's mission: "Simply we want to inspire and empower people to change the world".

Others invited include Sheldon Smith from Chicago, whose Dovetail Project gives young fathers such as himself the skills to be positive role models and responsible parents; and Emily May, the co-founder of New York-based The People's Supper that aims build understanding and trust over meals.

It also will hold three Training Days events for young people in Chicago, Boston and Tempe, Arizona, as well as restart Obama's My Brother's Keeper Alliance, aimed at "building safe and supportive communities for boys and young men of color where they feel valued and have clear pathways to opportunity".

Before that, Obama's foundation will start a series of three training days starting in Chicago on October 14.
