1-Up: Nintendo Bringing Back NES Classic Edition Console in 2018

Nintendo Announces Plans to Increase SNES Classic Production and Bring Back the NES Classic Mini

That was heartbreaking if you never got one.

The miniature version of the retro console Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) sold out pretty quickly after it was released, but players who were not able to get their hands on the console will have another chance thanks to the company's change of plans.

Nintendo also committed to providing "dramatically" more units of its upcoming release, the Super NES Classic Edition, when it launches on september 29 - with the company promising to ship out more Super NES Classics on Day 1 than were shipped of the NES Classic all past year.

Specifics about the re-release aren't yet known, but overseas Nintendo said it is planning new shipments for the northern hemisphere summer.

The company has made a decision to go with the 17-inchalloy wheels and dual exhausts to enhance the sporty appeal. The good news is, the new vehicle is even lighter than its predecessor by some 80 kg, weighing in at just 970 kg.

Nintendo's announcement in April of the NES Classic Edition discontinuation was a surprising one, considering that the retro console had massive trouble staying on store shelves due to intense demand. Then Nintendo had announced that they would be discontinuing the product.

For gamers who were disappointed by the NES Classic Edition supply shortage, the return of the retro console will undoubtedly be a good thing. They also announced that the SNES Classic, which was also meant to be another limited-production run, will continue being produced through 2018. Copies were often later found on online auction sites like Ebay, selling for three times its $80 ($60 US) sticker price or more.

The NES Classic Edition ships with 30 games including Donkey Kong, Castlevania, Final Fantasy and Metroid.

In addition to this the Japanese firm has said that it will ship additional NES Classic Edition consoles in 2018.
