Exec resigns from president's council, and Trump lashes out

Donald Trump slams drug firm CEO following resignation from advisory council

The CEO of computer chip maker Intel is resigning from President Donald Trump's American Manufacturing Council, bemoaning "the serious harm our divided political climate is causing to critical issues". "There are some companies that have continually ripped off the American people". Many other executives who sit on Trump's manufacturing council and strategic and advisory forum kept quiet - or waited until after his Monday address to weigh in.

Dell Technologies spokeswoman Lauren Lee confirmed Michael Dell, who sits on the manufacturing council, will not change his relationship with Trump.

But Frazier, without criticizing Trump by name, chose to part ways.

"America's leaders must honor our fundamental values by clearly rejecting expressions of hatred, bigotry and group supremacy, which run counter to the American ideal that all people are created equal", he said.

Trump said the departure allows Frazier to "LOWER RIPOFF DRUG PRICES!"

Frazier, chief executive of Merck since 2011, has not been shy about wading into sensitive issues.

On Sunday, however, the White House added: "The president said very strongly in his statement yesterday that he condemns all forms of violence, bigotry, and hatred, and of course that includes white supremacists, KKK, neo-Nazi, and all extremist groups". Under his leadership, Merck announced that its charitable foundation would suspend donations to the Boy Scouts of America over its anti-gay stance at the time.

"We've learned that as president, Mr. Trump is behaving exactly as he did as a candidate", Galston said. Homework is key because I know companies.

Merck CEO resigns from Trump council over Charlottesville
Thea Lee, an economist and former deputy chief of staff at the AFL-CIO, also resigned from the council. Plank said he would resign because he did not want to engage in politics.

"I support Ken Frazier's decision".

Frazier said in a statement he wants to "take a stand against intolerance and extremism". "Ken is driven by a strong sense of morality in everything he does and he continues to make me proud". There's been no word from the other CEOs on whether they intend to exit, as well.

Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein tweeted: "Lincoln: 'A house divided against itself can not stand.' Isolate those who try to separate us".

"For those that think it's absolutely right that Trump called [Frazier] out because he called Trump out, all I can say is ... do homework". The company eventually settled thousands of cases for $4.85 billion, a fraction of what analysts estimated the company might face if it stuck to its plan to fight every lawsuit.

"Our country's strength stems from its diversity and the contributions made by men and women of different faiths, races, sexual orientations and political beliefs", Frazier said in a statement.

Frazier is the latest captain of industry to drop a White House role in protest.

At an early meeting with pharmaceutical companies, Frazier sat at Trump's side. "I have already made clear my abhorrence at the recent hate-spawned violence in Charlottesville, and earlier today I called on all leaders to condemn the white supremacists and their ilk who marched and committed violence", he wrote.

The president followed up later in the day, tweeting that Merck "is a leader in higher & higher drug prices while at the same time taking jobs out of the U.S. Bring jobs back & LOWER PRICES!" He lashed out nearly immediately at Frazier, saying on Twitter that he will now "have more time to LOWER RIPOFF DRUG PRICES!"
