USA stocks fall again on North Korea tensions

Asian stocks lower as US, NKorea nuclear tensions rise

A series of downbeat corporate reports also weighed on USA stocks. Global equities are slumping while oil prices retreat on "oversupply" concerns. -North Korean sabre rattling.

Tensions remained high during the US session on Friday with further tough rhetoric from US President Trump maintaining market fears surrounding the North Korean situation. North Korea said that it was considering Guam as a target to fire missiles. The Standard & Poor's 500 index dropped 1.4 per cent to 2,438.21. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 edged down almost 0.1 percent to 5,760.90, while South Korea's Kospi fell 0.5 percent to 2,357.84. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index plummeted 560.49 points or 2% to 26,883.51. The blue-chip CSI300 was unchanged, while the Shanghai Composite Index dipped -0.2%.

The yen gained around 0.2 percent in Asian time as investors took their money out of higher-yielding currency plays following another warning from President Donald Trump to Pyongyang.

Innogy shares have moved to the downside after German utility maintained the outlook on the current year's business performance after reporting a drop in first-half net income to 817 million euros from 1.08 billion euros last year. Brent crude, used to price worldwide oils, rose 20 cents to $52.10 a barrel in London.

"The markets in general are very on edge and they're very leery about risk", Mariann Montagne, a portfolio manager at Gradient Investments, told Bloomberg. The post meeting joint statement said the "conclusions reached would help boost compliance".

USA stocks were lower on Wednesday afternoon as investors rushed to safe-haven assets after President Donald Trump's "fire and fury" warning to North Korea escalated tensions with the nuclear-armed nation.

Trump warned North Korea again on Thursday not to strike Guam or USA allies, saying his earlier threat to unleash "fire and fury" on Pyongyang if it launched an attack may not have been tough enough.

The yield - or interest rate - on a benchmark 10-year US Treasury bill dropped to 2.24%, while a 10-year German bund was yielding 0.43%.
