Tropical Depression 8 forms in the western Atlantic

99L strengthened into TD eight forecast to strengthen but stay away from any land

Tropical Depression Eight will attempt to strengthen into the newest tropical storm offshore of the southeastern United States in the coming day or two.

In an advisory issued at 10 p.m. Saturday, the hurricane center said the tropical depression is heading northwest around 13 miles per hour, blowing maximum sustained winds near 35 miles per hour with higher gusts.

The next name on the list is Gert if Eight becomes a tropical storm. If this storm develops, AccuWeather meteorologists have it taking two potential tracks, one of which would put it uncomfortably close to the Lowcountry.

The Tropical Depression is expected to stay well off to our east and will not impact our coast here in North Carolina.

Rough seas will get churned up over the southwestern Atlantic Ocean.
