Indian team for the ODI Series against Sri Lanka was announced by the BCCI on Sunday.Big news, but along expected lines was the exclusion of left-hander Yuvraj Singh.

After the ODI series, both sides will lock horns for a lone T20I at the R Premadasa Stadium on 6 September. The Mumbai batsman has been named as the vice-captain of the squad.

The 15-member squad led by Virat Kohli also features middle order batsman Manish Pandey, who is making a comeback to the ODI side after 2016. However, he will vie for a spot with Pandey, Rahul and Kedar Jadhav. The team had seven changes from the last time India played an ODI series against West Indies in June-July. Axar, 23, is already in Sri Lanka with the Test team, as replacement for the suspended Jadeja. From that India A squad, the legspinner Chahal has also won a recall. The uncapped Mumbai pace bowler Thakur was the leading wicket-taker for India A in South Africa with nine from four matches, conceding runs at just 4.34 per over.

Wicket-keeper batsmen Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik have also been dropped from the limited-overs squad that toured West Indies.

The five-match ODI series will start at Dambulla on 20 August. The final of Champions Trophy exposed India's slow bowling frailties. Of the 150 they have played, 83 went in favour of India while in Sri Lanka, they are marginally behind the hosts, winning 23 of the 57 matches played.
