Owners will decide on sale of Philippe Coutinho - Jurgen Klopp

Pressure mounts as Liverpool aim high

Can's optimism comes despite reports claiming star playmaker Philippe Coutinho submitted a transfer request on Friday after Liverpool announced it will not consider offers for the rumoured Barcelona target.

Barca, who sold Neymar to Paris St Germain last week for a world-record £200.6m, made their offer on Wednesday having already had a £72m bid for Coutinho turned down in July.

Steven Gerrard believes that Barcelona will be piling the pressure on Philippe Coutinho to force his way out of Liverpool this summer.

"Andre Gray did only two sessions with me and he did not know very well what I want from him in the match", Silva said.

"If they don't sell him, then I'm not involved anymore".

"I'm responsible for all of players, not just one, two or three". Positive things aside, Liverpool are missing a handful of players to face the Hornets. "Pre-season is over now and everybody's happy, I think we played a good pre-season and we can go with confidence into the new season".

Asked if Coutinho had let down his team mates with his request, Klopp said: "I am not part of the discussion with the group".

That would be a daunting schedule for any quarterback, never mind one who only made 23 starts at Notre Dame. Jackson said after watching film of T Cam Erving, "it wasn't as bad as I think we all thought".

Dortmund suspend Dembele indefinitely
Dembele is being targeted as a replacement for Neymar , who left Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain last week in a record-shattering €222million deal.

Klopp, who pointed to the statement Liverpool issued on Friday when asked whether anything had changed from the club's perspective, chose his words carefully.

The German boss will have unnerved fans, after he said the deal is is FSG's hands.

As well as being unavailable for Liverpool's league campaign-opener at Vicarage Road, Coutinho is a doubt for Tuesday's Champions League qualifying play-off first leg against Hoffenheim in Germany.

Coutinho rocked the club after he handed in a transfer request to try and push through a move to Ernesto Valverde's side. I didn't see the club insiders today.

Roberto Firmino's penalty and a debut goal from Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead early in the second half. I don't make the decision. Liverpool's defending on Watford's other goal, which was swept home by Abdoulaye Doucouré after Sadio Mané had equalised for Liverpool, was also desperately poor.

Watford began the encounter impressive by giving the Reds flurry of attacks before a defensive gaffe gave them the first goal in the 8th minutes through Stefano Okaka.
