Everton Manager Koeman Confirms Sigurdsson Deal Is 'Close'

Gylfi Sigurdsson

Everton failed with an opening £40m bid for Sigurdsson.

Everton are "close" to agreeing a deal to sign Swansea City's £50 million-rated midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson as Ronald Koeman continues to revamp his squad.

"You try to hold onto him, you push the price up hoping that he stays", former Wales striker Hartson said.

Asked about a return for Wilfried Bony, Clement said: "I have seen that name linked, but until we get the current situation organised, then nothing's going to happen".

Swansea have put a £50m price tag on Sigurdsson, who scored nine goals last season and was the Welsh club's creative hub with 13 assists as they managed to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

PAUL CLEMENT has taken a thinly-veiled swipe at Everton target Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Winger Aaron Lennon was not included in the Everton's squad for their last pre-season friendly against the Spanish side.

"There has been no further update since I last spoke to the media on Wednesday", he said. "I was happy with the performance today".

However, with the season now less than a week away, Koeman has claimed that a deal for Sigurdsson is "close" and that he wants to bring in three more players this summer. "All parties would like it resolved", the Swansea boss told Sky Sports.

However Koeman remains hopeful a deal for the 27-year-old will go through sooner rather than later, while he is also hoping to add a left-sided defender, winger and a striker to his ranks before the window shuts.
